A Bowen Session - What to Expect

Bowen sessions generally last from 45 minutes to 60 minutes although the first session may take up to 90 minutes as it includes history taking and assessment. A session is most often done while lying on a treatment table, although it can also be done sitting in a chair or lying on a bed.

The treatment consists of a series of gentle moves followed by a period of time where the practitioner leaves the room to allow your body to integrate. This sequence continues throughout the treatment. During sessions, it is common to drop into deep relaxation or to even fall asleep.

The first session usually focuses on rebalancing the entire body to prepare it to receive further treatments. Subsequent treatments can be booked a week later and will usually include one or more specialized movements.

Results may be noticed immediately; however your body will continue to integrate Bowen for five to ten days following your treatment. It is recommended that you do not receive any other bodywork treatments during this time to allow your body to continue processing Bowen.

Many issues will resolve within two treatments with long-held problems taking three or more sessions. Chronic conditions may require occasional maintenance sessions.
